Common questions › Trusting the numbers
Why does my visibility figure come with a range around it?
A percentage summarises the answers you observed. A range can illustrate sampling uncertainty, but it does not capture every source of error or prove that two results are equal.
A frozen worked example
In a fictional set of 50 answers, a brand appears in 6: that is 12%. The example range of 6% to 24% illustrates how limited evidence can leave a wide range of plausible values. These are frozen demonstration figures, not a current Pilot result or a calculation run when this page loads.
What a range cannot settle
Overlapping ranges do not establish equal performance. Non-overlapping ranges do not establish that a website change caused the difference. Questions selected for commercial relevance are not a random sample of all buyers, and repeated readings can be related.
Read the evidence alongside the percentage
- Keep the usable-answer count and failed readings visible.
- Compare unchanged questions under compatible conditions, separately by service.
- Check factual accuracy, mentions, recommendations and citations separately.
- Investigate missing coverage or changing conditions before acting on a difference.
The current Pilot has not established a complete accepted baseline or a visibility improvement. A range alone cannot resolve those limits.
